About Teya

Teya Sepinuck, the founder and artistic director of Theater of Witness has been creating and producing productions and films that stand at the intersection of art/social change/spirituality/education and peacemaking since 1986. Drawing on her dance and counseling backgrounds, she founded this unique form of performance that has tapped the deepest stories from people whose stories had never been heard before, transforming them into powerful and raw theater productions.

Teya draws on her capacity to listen to what has been unspoken, leads people into emotional and performative territory they may never have imagined, and seeks to always ‘find the medicine’ in stories of suffering, transformation and peace while upholding the highest artistic standards.

Her work shines light on some of the darkest aspects of society and brings hope and the possibility of transformation, forgiveness and peace to people. The ripple effects from her productions have forged new and unlikely friendships across boundaries of difference for performers, while inviting audiences to ‘humanize the other’ and increase their capacity for understanding and empathy. Teya has engaged in a long time meditation practice which informs all of her work and life.

Teya‘s first book: ‘Theatre of Witness – Finding the Medicine in Stories of Suffering, Transformation and Peace’ was published in February 2013 by Jessica Kingsley Press. “We are the Ripple Effect, created with former performers in Northern Ireland  in 2022 is available by ebook at Amazon and through The Derry  Playhouse in paperback.
